On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 6.05pm, a massive explosion rocked the Beirut port, killing more than 200 people, leaving more than 6,500 injured, 300,000 people homeless, and massive property damage estimated at over $4.8 billion USD.

Beirut is the home of our headquarters, and during the last 50 years, we have built many of the city’s prominent landmarks. The tragic explosion turned Beirut into ruins. The city, that made us who we are today, has been devastated. It has lost its soul and its heritage. We have been left with no choice but to act. MAN Enterprise, in partnership with Solidarity, has launched the Alive Beirut initiative, committed to returning families to their homes in the shortest time possible. As a first step, a full-fledged reconstruction base camp was created at the center of the damaged area in Mar Mikhael to ensure quick response times in an efficient manner. MAN Enterprise is dedicated to investing its resources and equipment to support the reconstruction of Beirut by resettling as many people as possible in their homes before winter. It is a task where time is of the essence for surveying damage in hundreds of buildings. The repairs are time-consuming, while the focus is on restoring basic services as quickly as possible, and in the process, improving the quality of buildings by respecting construction standards. In addition, collaborating with partners to ensure efficiency and transparency is also a priority. On October 3, the American delegation that included Tom Barrack the businessman with Lebanese roots and Lance Armstrong the former professional racing cyclist visited the base camp in Karantina and participated in a cycling course to raise donations for different NGOs supporting the capital affected by the explosion, Beirut. Our target as MAN Enterprise and Solidarity Team is to return 1,000 families to their refurbished homes by March 2021. We have completed around 500 homes to date and currently have another 500 in the pipeline.
